I’ve read another study about electronic cigarettes this afternoon. It was actually on the front page of one local newspaper and it really got my attention because I am determined to talk my sister out of her cigarette and nicotine addiction. She has become so dependent to nicotine these days that she has to stock up boxes of cigarettes in her room because she’s afraid she’ll run out of supply. Oh my! She’s a bad case alright!
Going back to the study, researchers have revealed that more and more smokers nowadays have chosen to use electronic cigarettes as an effective way to give up their smoking habit. The researchers of course compared e-cigarettes to other anti-smoking aids like over-the-counter patches, gums, inhalers, lozenges and even pills. The study tapped people who have more or less the same cigarette addiction profiles and have them use different “quit smoking” aids including electronic cigarettes.
According to the study, for the 6-month period, smokers who used electronic cigarettes have more than 30% of smoking abstinence while those who are using other anti-smoking aids diverges between 10 % to 20%. This of course means that more smokers are likely to give up their dependency to smoking through the help of e-cigarettes; that they would rather switch from smoking to vaping. I only wished one of the testers was my sister so she’ll have on-hand experience with the benefits of electronic cigarettes.
Aside from the comparison research and analysis, the study also comprised of a survey wherein more than 200 vapers were interviewed and revealed that about 70% of them strongly believed that electronic cigarettes are really effective and that they were able to drastically reduce the number of regular cigarettes they smoke in just a month. Again, I was wishing my sister was one of them.
My sister’s still single. If only she’d been married and have kids I think it would be easier to have her quit smoking since family and responsibilities can at least help her give her bad habit up. I have learned so much about electronic cigarettes and its numerous benefits but I don’t know if my sister is open-minded enough to allow me to share with her my knowledge. I can still remember the heated debates and fights we had in the past just because of her nicotine dependency and honestly, I don’t want to have the same fights again. But I guess I’m left with no choice, I will have to discuss with my sister again if I really wanted to help her out of her addiction. Better the risk of fighting than the risk of her getting very ill because of smoking.
