The E cigarette ban – could it happen?

According to recent press coverage, some major pharmaceutical companies are unnerved by the growing popularity of e cigarettes or electronic cigarettes and are proposing a ban on the stop smoking product.

Pharmaceutical companies are currently the main providers of quit smoking products which include gums, patches and tablets. Many smokers ahve been looking for an alternative to tobacco based cigarettes, that's where the e cigarette has proven very popular.

The electronic cigarette acts as an inhaler and looks and feels like a normal cigarette. The smoker will get the taste of a cigarette when they use the e cigarette, but will not inhale the toxins and chemicals that regular cigarettes omit. This makes e cigarettes a very popular method which current pharmaceutical companies are not supplying. This means they could lose out on a lot of money.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of the e cigarette is because they can be used in public, which means that they can be used despite the smoking ban which has reached most public areas of the UK.
Although there are alleged and proposed bans in place for the e cigarette, it seems unlikely they will ever be banned because many people can buy the product from the internet, and any ban would cause uproar from users of the product.

The electronic cigarette market is taking off and many websites are sold out of their most popular stock.
